DAY 1 – KOTA KINABALU / KINABALU PARK HQ – ASCEND / LABAN RATA RESTHOUSE (DORM)

The adventure begins with pick-up around 06:00 am at Kota Kinabalu Hotel. Proceed the journey to Kinabalu Park.

Upon arrival at Mount Kinabalu Park Headquarters (estimated 08:00 – 08:30 am), collect your packed lunch and proceed to register for your Mount Kinabalu summit climb and meet your guide for the trip. After registration, you will be transferred to Timpohon Gate (1,866m), from here you will begin your climb to Laban Rata Resthouse (3,273m), your accommodation for the evening.

Along the route to your accommodation, you will pass through four different elevation zones with notable vegetation and mammals. Keep your eye out for the famous pitcher-plants or the cheeky Kinabalu Mountain shrews, endemic to Mount Kinabalu.

The average time to get to Laban Rata Resthouse will take about 4-5 hours, this may vary depending on stops and your fitness level.

Upon arrival, you will check into your accommodation for the evening and rest before your buffet dinner at Laban Rata Restaurant, where you can enjoy the sunset from above the clouds. Once you are finished, head to bed for an early night’s sleep after a long day of climbing.

DAY 2 – LABAN RATA RESTHOUSE (DORM) / SUMMIT CLIMB / KINABALU PARK HQ – DESCEND / KOTA KINABALU

Wake-up around 2:00 am to have a quick supper at Laban Rata Restaurant before continuing the climb to the summit of Mount Kinabalu (4095m). Your head torch will guide you through the dark as you make your way before sunrise. Reach Low’s Peak around the time the sun begins to make an appearance (weather dependent).

Congratulations! You’ve successfully reached the highest point between the Himalayas and New Guinea, also the most prominent peak in S.E. Asia. With your guide, begin your descent back to Laban Rata Resthouse as you enjoy the views of the Crocker Range plateaus, valleys and nearby villages.

Upon arrival at Laban rata restaurant, enjoy a well-deserved breakfast before checking out and meeting with your guide to begin the descent back to Timpohon gate. Once you reach Timpohon gate, meet our driver who will transfer you to Park Headquarters where you could collect your certificate saying you’ve successfully conquered Mount Kinabalu.

Have lunch at Liwagu Restaurant while waiting for any other climbers to return to Park Headquarters before departing together back to Kota Kinabalu.

The normal departure time from Kinabalu Park is around 3:00 – 6:00 pm depending on other climbers, arriving back to Kota Kinabalu about 2 hours later.

(Last Transport to Kota Kinabalu City at 18:00 Hrs. If you missed the last transport, you may need to pay for private transfer with additional charges at RM250/way)

1ST ASCENT – TIMPOHON GATE TO LABAN RATA RESTHOUSE
(Day 1 Climb / Weather: Usually Warm & Sunny)

Wear t-shirts and track pants that are lightweight.
Wear well-gripped, covered walking/hiking shoes. (A sports shoe will suffice.)
To hold your belongings, you’ll need a waterproof backpack. (If you don’t already have one, invest in a rain cover for your backpack.) Limit yourself to less than 6kg. Bringing more than that would be a hassle for you).
A little towel that is lightweight.
Trekking / Hiking Pole (available at Kinabalu Park for MYR 45 per pole; please contact our staff)

2ND ASCENT – LABAN RATA RESTHOUSE TO LOW’S PEAK SUMMIT
(Day 2 Climb / Weather: Usually Cold & Windy)

Warm clothes are recommended.
Waterproof windbreakers, long-sleeved shirts, thick trousers/hiking pants, thick socks, and appropriate shoes are all recommended.
Torch in the head. (You’ll need a head torch because you’ll be holding the rope in the dark most of the time.)
Balaclava mask, cap, beanie, head scarf (It will keep you warm and keep the chilly wind off your head and face.)
Gloves. (The ideal gloves are waterproof, as they will protect your hands from rope burn and cold.)
In the event of rain, use ponchos, a disposable raincoat, or a waterproof jacket.

Waterproof backpack to store your items
Trekking or running shoe with good grip

Your extra luggage can be stored at Kinabalu Park HQ at a nominal fee of MYR 12 per piece prior to climb.

Climbers who arrive at Timpohon Gate after 16:30 hours will be charged MYR 15 per hour per guide and must pay the mountain guide directly on the spot.

Laban Rata Restaurant does NOT provide boiled water for drinking/refill to climbers. Coffee & Tea will only be provided complimentary during Breakfast & Supper. However, mineral water, coffee, tea, and other hot drinks and Soft Drinks are still available for purchase at the Grocery Counter (Laban Rata Resthouse).
Check-out time for Laban Rata Resthouse at 10:00 Hrs. Late Check out will be an additional cost at RM100/hour
The Malaysian Tourism and Culture Ministry will establish a Malaysian Tourism Tax beginning September 1, 2017. (TTX). Foreign visitors will be charged a fixed cost of MYR 10 per room per night, regardless of the hotel’s star rating. The TTx must be paid at the time of check-in. Malaysians or permanent residents living in Malaysia are exempt from TTx, but must provide a valid identity card upon check-in to qualify.
